Northwest & Southwest

We start this tour with a visit to Câmara de Lobos, a traditional fishing village, followed by Cabo Girão Belvedere, which is the highest sea cliff in Europe (580m / 1902ft). This Belvedere is fitted with a skywalk platform. We then continue to the coastal villages of Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol. The latter village has an historic basalt pier built in 1848, which makes it a great place to take photographs. We then visit Madalena do Mar before climbing to over 1500m / 4921ft high to Paúl da Serra, which leads to the wonderful and magical native forest of Fanal at a little over 1000m / 3280ft from sea level. Ribeira da Janela precedes our main destination with a long and relaxed time to enjoy lunch or swim at the famous natural lava swimming pools of Porto Moniz. Then it's time to drive along the northern coastal road through Seixal and São Vicente, with its waterfalls, and head back to the city of Funchal.
